Abbreviation: | TMi |
Genitive: | Trianguli Minoris |
Origin: | Johannes Hevelius, 1690 |
Triangles are easy to form on the celestial sphere and German/Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius (1611–1687) came up with a small example in the in northern sky. Comprised of three fifth-magnitude stars near its larger and brighter sibling Triangulum (or Triangulum Majus as Hevelius termed it), the small triangle eventually faded into obscurity. The two heavenly triangles were sometimes collectively called Triangula.
